The NJCRC is now fully seated and in session! Ready to work on what the needs of the people are, the esteemed members are the following:
- Houneou, chair: Senior policy adviser to Gov. Phil Murphy, and a former policy director with the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey, where she helped craft the 2019 proposed marijuana legalization bills that laid the groundwork for the laws now enacted.
- Charles Barker: Projects specialist on U.S. Sen. Cory Booker’s staff and member of the National Action Network, a civil rights organization.
- Maria Del Cid: Policy and legislative services director at the New Jersey Department of Health.
- Sam Delgado: Retired Verizon public affairs executive, U.S. Marine Corps veteran, founding board member of the New Jersey Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. (Nominated by Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin.)
- Krista Nash: Social worker and director for the Program for Returning Offenders with Mental Illness Safely Effectively (PROMISE) with the Delaware Valley chapter of Volunteers of America.
The commission held its first meeting early April and has another meeting slated for tomorrow, May 4th 2021. This meeting will focus on the topic of Social Equity, and how those needs should be met by the state. Some questions will include:
- What standards should the CRC be adopting to help create an inclusive market?
- What barriers and problems need to be addressed?
- What are your recommendations for making the industry reflective of New Jersey – diverse, competitive and equitable?
- How do we ensure individuals that have been harmed by unjust drug laws have a place in this industry?
Come share your thoughts and recommendations at the upcoming CRC virtual public meeting on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 6:00pm.

To accommodate as many speakers as possible, comments will be limited to 3 minutes per person, and individuals may offer comments only once during the meeting. Groups and organizations should designate one individual to speak on behalf of the group.

This will not be the only opportunity to weigh in on this topic – only the first.
